Meet the Coaches
Craig Yenzer, Head Coach
Coach Yenzer Graduated from Crescent High School in Crescent, Oklahoma, where he was a member of the state runner-up and state quarter-final football team his junior and senior years. He attended and played football for the University of Tulsa and graduated from Oklahoma State University with degrees in mathematics and physical education. Coach Yenzer began his coaching career in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and spent five years coaching in Tuttle, Oklahoma before moving to Hereford, Texas in the fall of 1986. While in Hereford for sixteen years, he served as an Assistant Varsity Football Coach, the Defensive Coordinator, and the Offensive Coordinator before being named Athletic Director and Head Coach in 1996. Coach Yenzer has received numerous coaching awards. His awards include: District 3-4A Football Coach of the year (three times), South Plains Football Coach of the Year, Panhandle Football Super Team Coach of the Year, and Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Football Coach of the Year. Since residing in Midland, he has been awarded Reebok Team Uniforms 2002 5-A Coach of the Year by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine, Texas Football.com 5-A Coach of the Year, and All Permian Basin Team 2002 Coach of the Year, and in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010 he was chosen “Midland’s Favorite Coach.” Most recently Coach Yenzer and his staff were chosen to represent the 2009 ASCO All-Star Team as the coaches for the South Team. He was recently chosen to be a member of the selection committee for the West Texas High School All-Star team. He and his staff have been nominated three times to coach the Texas High School Coaches All-Star Game and in 2004 and 2007 he was nominated to serve as President-elect of the Texas High School Coaches Association. He has also been on the Board of Directors for the Texas High School Coaches Association. In 2006, he was featured on a segment of High School Extra, as a “Coach Who Makes a Difference.” He was selected by the UIL to represent Texas in the 2006 Gatorade National Coaches Council. Craig and his wife, Tammy, a 6th grade orchestra teacher, have two sons. Clay and his wife, Meghan are both graduates of Texas Tech University. Clay teaches math and is an offensive coach at Midland Freshman School and Meghan is an administrative assistant at Kinder Morgan. Tyler and his wife, Amy are also graduates of Texas Tech University and reside in Midland. Tyler is the Vice President of Patriot Royalty and Land. Amy, who was a first grade teacher at Fannin Elementary, is going to be a stay at home mom, as she and Tyler are expecting a daughter in October. They are all members of the First Baptist Church in Midland.
Jim Conger, Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach
Coach Conger was previously a coach in Hereford, Texas for six years. Before Hereford, he coached in Texarkana. He also coached the offensive line at West Texas A&M University for five years and served a year in Floydada. He played high school football at Arlington Sam Houston and also played college level for Eastern New Mexico University where he graduated in 1985. He and his wife Cristi, a teacher, have two daughters, Sydney, 20, a sophomore at Midland College and Regan, 17, a junior at Midland High School.
Tim Anuszkiewicz, Safeties and Special Teams Coach
Coach Anuskiewicz, (Coach A-Z), is serving his seventh season at Midland High, serving from 2002-2005 & 2009 to the present. He is coaching the safeties for the MHS defense and will lead the Special Teams for the Bulldogs. Coach Anuszkiewicz served as AD-Head football coach at Borger High School. Other coaching stops include Canyon High, Hereford High, Friona High and Bonham Junior High in Odessa. He is a graduate of West Texas State University where he was a running back from 1988-1991. Coach Anuszkiewicz and his wife Chrystal, a teacher, have three children, Jordan, a Junior at Texas Tech University, Caleigh, 14 and Jackson, 12.
Shane Fletcher, Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker Coach
Coach Fletcher is a 1977 graduate of Midland High. Coach Fletcher attended College of the Canyons J.C. in Valencia, California and transferred to Eastern New Mexico University where he played football and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelors in Education and in 1989 a Masters in Education. Coach Fletcher’s coaching career began in 1981 in Littlefield, Texas. He then moved to Melrose, N.M. as the Head Football Coach. He has also coached in Portales, N.M., Dumas, TX and Borger, TX. For seven years Coach Fletcher was the Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Midland Freshman and is in his third year as Defensive Coordinator at MHS. Shane and his wife, Vicki, an elementary counselor for MISD, have two children, Mason, 18 and Morgan, 15.
Chris Moralez, Defensive Line Coach
Coach Moralez graduated from Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and played linebacker for the Skyhawks. Since then, he coached in the MHS system at San Jacinto for two years and Midland Freshman for one year. This is Coach Moralez’ ninth year at Midland High School. He and his wife Audrey have a 7 year old daughter named Taylor and 2 year old twins, daughter Micah and son Ty.
Cal Neatherlin, Running Backs Coach
Coach Neatherlin graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1996, with a B.S. in Physical Education and English. Coach Neatherlin is the Running Backs Coach. His coaching experience includes Splendora Middle School and Goddard Junior High School. This will be Coach Neatherlin’s eleventh year at Midland High School. He and his wife, Kim, a registered nurse, have three children, Shelby, 14, Karsen, 10 and Seth, 3.
Jeff Streun, Defensive Secondary Coach
Coach Streun is beginning his sixth year coaching Secondary for the Dawgs. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1984. He went on to attend West Texas State University and graduated with a degree in Math Education. Coach Streun began his coaching career in McLean, Texas. Coach Streun has also coached in Denver City, Midland-Greenwood, and in Ozona where he was the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. Coach Streun’s wife, Becky, is employed as the Data Entry Clerk at Midland High School. They have two children, Hunter, 16 and Jaci, 11.
Danny Neighbors, Defensive Ends Coach
Danny Neighbors, Defensive End Coach, is in his 21st year of coaching. He is moved to the varsity staff this year after coaching at Midland Freshman. He graduated in 1990 from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Biology. He is married to Lisa, principal at Parker Elementary. They have two children: Lexi, 16 and Cadan, 11.
Bobby Alvarez, Assistant Offensive Line Coach
Coach Alvarez graduated from Stamford High School in 1988. He attended Hardin-Simmons University for three years then completed his Bachelors in Physical Education at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He is no stranger to the Bulldogs, having served as the Athletic Director and Head Coach at San Jacinto Junior High for four years. The previous nine years he was on the coaching staff as a seventh and eighth grade coach. Coach Alvarez is married to Josie, who has been a realtor with Legacy Real Estate for the past seven years. They have two daughters, Sarah, 17 and Macy, 14.
Ector Lopez, Tight Ends Coach
Coach Lopez began his coaching career in Midland, Texas. He coached offensive backs and receivers at Goddard Junior High School for three years. He then coached defensive secondary and was the special teams coordinator at Midland Freshman for three additional years. This is Coach Lopez’s fifth year as Varsity Tight End Coach and Inside Receivers Coach. He played high school football in Fort Stockton, Texas. He attended Angelo State University where he played football and graduated in 2001. His wife Amanda teaches and coaches JV Volleyball at Midland High School. They have a son, Caleb, 13.
Bryan Sledge, Receivers Coach
Bryan Sledge grew up and graduated from Coahoma High School. He graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in 2002. Coach Sledge has taught and coached at San Jacinto Junior High School, Midland Freshman, and is now in his sixth year at Midland High School. He is also the Assistant Girls’ Basketball Coach. Coach Sledge enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family and their dogs. He and his wife, Erica, have two daughters Alyssa and Suri.
